EC Sends Opinion to Jharkhand Guv About CM Soren's Disqualification as MLA

The Election Commission, on Thursday, 25 August, reportedly sent its opinion to Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais on a plea which sought Chief Minister Hemant Soren's disqualification as MLA for violating the electoral law by extending a mining lease to himself. The Chief Minister's office had earlier said that it had received no communication regarding the report recommending his disqualification. The opinion was sent to the Jharkhand Raj Bhavan in a sealed cover this morning, news agency PTI reported. The Bharatiya Janata Party, the petitioner in the case, has sought Soren's disqualification for violating section 9 A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which deals with disqualification for government contracts.
