Is the tide going out on Port Macquarie's long-promised ocean pool?

ABC

It has been more than 50 years since the last ocean pool was built in NSW, and those waiting for a new one at Port Macquarie, on the state's mid-north coast, are starting to understand why. Port Macquarie's Oxley Beach was announced as the site of NSW's newest ocean pool in July 2020. Project manager of the Port Macquarie Tidal Pool Committee, Riley Smith, said the main tasks included submitting a planning proposal and development application to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, and working with consultants around coastal engineering, ecology, and traffic. A Ballina Shire Council spokesperson said there was no further planning assessments in the pipeline for an ocean pool along Ballina's coast. Mr Smith emphasised the role of the community in making Port Macquarie's ocean pool project a reality.
