FBI director to step down next month, making way for Trump’s pick

Wray’s move avoids his likely firing by Trump, a step which could have further exacerbated longstanding tensions between the FBI and the incoming president. Sen. John Cornyn argued Wray did not bear the blame for the FBI’s failings, but the public wanted there to be consequences for previous leaders going after Trump. “What people were looking for was accountability for the misdeeds leadership, and we didn’t see a lot of that because frankly, they left the FBI but there didn’t seem to be a lot of repercussions after that.” Some FBI officials hoped that the bureau could mend fences with Trump through its role investigating the assassination attempt on him in Pennsylvania in July. Wray has to resign, and NOW, for LYING TO CONGRESS!“ Wray did not mention Trump in the excerpts of his remarks released by the FBI’s press office Wednesday, but did seem to echo concerns Democratic lawmakers and former FBI officials have expressed in recent weeks about Trump’s vows to use federal law enforcement to target his political enemies.
