Justin Herbert doesn’t have ‘secret’ athleticism. It’s been on display his whole life
LA TimesThe running ability and athleticism of the Chargers’ Justin Herbert is rare for a quarterback his size. Scouts came to Sheldon’s games to catch a glimpse of Herbert’s cut fastball that “drove guys nuts,” former Sheldon baseball coach Stan Manley said. As if Herbert playing all three sports wasn’t impressive enough, former Sheldon basketball coach Daniel Clark emphasized the way the teenager improved at all three despite minimal offseason training as he bounced between seasons. “There’s times when things are going to be covered,” Roman said, “and when you can make them pay with your feet, it adds a totally new dimension to what you can do offensively.” Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert uses a straight-arm as he scrambles against the Tennessee Titans. “And he’s going to talk crap to you the whole time with it,” said Dye, who played with Herbert at Oregon.
