Cubs’ Matthew Boyd isn’t reinventing himself. He’s doubling down on who he is

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Spring training is often a time for experimentation — the addition of a new pitch or a dramatic change in delivery. “I don’t have to try to be somebody else,” Boyd said. “All through college, I didn’t have an injury, and from 2013 to 2021, I didn’t miss a start,” Boyd said. “It’s not that I’m unwilling to learn, I’m an open book,” Boyd said. There’s been little mechanical cues this spring, stuff that’s really gotten me back to who I am.” Ahead of the 2025 season, Boyd’s not looking to reinvent the wheel.
