T.N. Assembly: National anthem issue raised by Governor in 2024 was already resolved, says Speaker
The HinduTamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker M. Appavu on Monday maintained that the issue raised by Governor R.N. Ravi over the playing of the national anthem in February 2024 — during the first Assembly session of that year — had already been “resolved”. He further cited tradition, as per which the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu was to be sung before the Governor’s speech and the national anthem to be sung after it. The Governor had sent a communication with regard to the recital of the national anthem on February 12, 2024, and the issue was resolved already, the Speaker said. I am bringing to the notice of the members that the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu would be sung before the Governor’s speech and the national anthem would be sung after the speech.” After the Speaker completed his speech, members of the House sang the national anthem.
