This scientific review has even led to the discrediting of certain forensic techniques like bitemark analysis, which has markedly changed the judicial scrutiny of such evidence in many jurisdictions. The importance of examining the scientific validity of forensic evidence is well illustrated by the shift in the US judicial discourse on bitemark comparison. Irrespective of the peculiarities of the Indian legal framework, this move towards greater use of bitemark comparison when overwhelming scientific proof doubts its validity, also signifies the inability of our legal system to prevent the use of unreliable forensic evidence.
