KSHRC seeks report on measures to protect Aralam residents from wildlife threat
The HinduThe Kerala State Human Rights Commission has directed the Kannur District Collector and the Divisional Forest Officer to submit a detailed report on the measures planned to protect the residents of Aralam, who are facing life-threatening attacks from wild animals, including elephants. The Commission said in a release that the matter would be reviewed during a meeting at the Kannur Government Guest House at 11 a.m. on March 24. The Commission took up the suo motu case based on a newspaper report highlighting the plight of Aralam residents. Residents also cite the lack of basic facilities, including drinking water, as a major concern, stating that delays in the rehabilitation process have worsened their situation, the Commission said, citing the newspaper articles.
