Power, transport hit in Nilgiris

Deccan Chronicle

OOTY: Uprooted trees continued to play havoc with transport and power supply in the hills as the rains continued without any let up in central and western Nilgiris that saw Upper Bhavani near Ooty recording 100 mm of rainfall on Monday. The winds and rains that continued throughout Sunday night resulting in the uprooting of trees in quite a few places, hitting free flow of transport on the Ooty-Kotagiri, Coonoor-Kotagiri and Ooty-Gudalur roads for a while. Sources said that little over a hundred trees were uprooted and fell on cable lines in Parson's Valley, Sandhinallah and Ooty town limits. Disaster management wing staff began to chop dangerous trees along the roadsides in Ooty on Monday.
