Telangana Assembly passes unanimous resolution seeking conferment of Bharat Ratna on former PM Manmohan Singh

The Telangana Legislative Assembly requested the Central Government to confer Bharat Ratna on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who breathed his last a couple of days ago. “He faced criticism with people describing him as ‘mouna muni’ and ‘accidental Prime Minister’, but he remained resolute on ensuring empowerment of the common man at grass root level,” Mr. Reddy said adding simplicity was the hallmark of Mr. Singh who would continue to inspire the coming generations. The Chief Minister recalled the enactment of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme providing 100 days work to the poor during Mr. Singh’s tenure as the Prime Minister of the country. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka recalled how Mr. Singh took tough decisions to improve the economy of the country which was facing a financial crisis.
