Quarter of 18-year-olds are now long-term vapers

Almost one in four 18-year-olds are now long-term vape users, a study has found. Experts said the rise of disposable e-cigarettes had led to an “exceptionally steep” increase in young adults and teenagers using the devices, including many who had never smoked before. The King said Labour would introduce laws to “progressively increase the age at which people can buy cigarettes, and impose limits on the sale and marketing of vapes”. The new study by researchers at University College London found that 22.7 per cent of 18-year-olds were long-term vapers – defined as someone who has used e-cigarettes for longer than six months – in October 2023. Some 16 per cent of 18-year-olds were long-term vape users despite not smoking, with 19.1 per cent of them primarily using disposable vapes.
