Metro Rail schedule on a shaky track

All major land acquisition hurdles have been overcome, contracts with leading global firms for various components are in place and the monies too are sewn up nicely. Now, the ball is firmly in the Telangana Government’s court if the concessionaire building the project in the public, private partnership mode – biggest such worldwide – L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad sticks to the timeline fixed as per the Concessionaire Agreement. Metro rail officials, cagey on being identified, are however, quite clear that unless the Telangana Government takes a call in the next couple of months, the timelines could go haywire. L&TMRH and HMR had already conducted technical studies related to proposed changes in front of the Legislative Assembly building, Sultan Bazar and avoiding old city roads by taking the overhead viaduct behind the High Court and on River Musi banks and these have been placed before the Telangana Government. Alignment change To avoid building the metro rail line going in front of the Assembly, it has been suggested that the line can take a right turn after Lakdi-ka-pul station, into the police quarters at DGP office, alongside the rail tracks and on to the main road at Telugu University rather than in front of it, reducing distance by 15 metres.
