Drone strikes help Ukraine smash through Russian lines in Kharkiv
The TelegraphUkraine’s Bayraktar armed drones have helped its forces penetrate 50 kilometres into Russian-held territory and recapture more than 20 towns and villages in an ongoing counter-offensive. "Enemy infantry and motorised artillery units unprotected by air defence systems become easy prey for our Bayraktars, the quantity of which is always increasing, thanks to our volunteers," he said, referring to international fund-raising campaigns to buy more of the drones for Ukraine. More than 700 sq km of land has been brought under Ukrainian control, he said, while Ukrainian troops in Kherson also made significant gains and “advanced deep into the Russian defences”. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin earlier on Thursday said President Joe Biden had approved a $675 million weapons package for Ukraine, as he and other defence ministers met in Germany to discuss how to continue supporting Kyiv in the long-term.
