Alibaba Group's website makes it to the USTR 'notorious' markets list for the second time in 4 years
Taobao.com, an online marketplace run and maintained by China’s Alibaba Group has once again made it to the annual list of ‘notorious’ markets Taobao.com, an online marketplace run and maintained by China’s Alibaba Group has once again made it to the US Trade Representative’s annual list of ‘notorious’ markets. The agency responsible for compiling the list keeps tabs on “physical and online markets notorious for fakes,” reports The Wall Street Journal. Taobao had made the list in 2011, but Alibaba’s subsequent efforts to counter copyright infringement got it off the list soon after. The Wall Street Journal quotes the USTR as saying that “attempts to report infringement to Alibaba are refused inconsistently and requests to take items off the site are denied without guidance on how to get results.” For a company that’s looking to move beyond the shores of China, being listed in such a way is bad news.
