Opinion: TS Singh Deo's elevation in Chhattisgarh – Congress's masterstroke?

TS Singh Deo’s elevation as the first Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh just a whisker away from the Vidhan Sabha elections is being billed as a masterstroke by many. Back in 2018, Bhupesh Baghel and TS Singh Deo were known as the ‘Jai-Veeru’ of Chhattisgarh politics. Bhupesh Baghel, as the Congress Chief who became the face of the party and led them to victory; TS Singh Deo, the architect of the manifesto and the factor in the clean sweep in north Chhattisgarh which was his domain, and Tamradhwaj Sahu who was the face of the Sahu community which comprises nearly 1/6th of the electorate. The party went with Bhupesh Baghel with an understanding that the chief minister’s post would be given to Singh Deo after half the term.
