Kolkata: Woman gives birth in toilet, throws newborn outside window

A woman gave birth to a baby boy inside the toilet of her residence in Kolkata's Kasba area and threw him outside by breaking the window of the toilet, police said, adding that the newborn died a day later while receiving treatment. Police said although Nicola said that she was not aware of her pregnancy, doctors, who conducted the post-mortem of the newborn, said that the woman had given birth to a seven-month-old premature baby. Police said that although her husband asked her to get herself checked and see if she was pregnant, Nicola did not go to the doctor since she was getting her regular periods. Senior police officials also said that during interrogation, Nicola not only confessed to having thrown her baby out of the toilet, she also poured buckets of water inside the toilet thinking that it would wash her baby away from the drain.
