As summer sets in, water shortage worries people

As the summer time has kicked in, residents in several areas of Kochi and its suburbs are pressing for more water supply. Mukkottil Temple Road Residents’ Association, comprising areas under the Kochi Corporation, Division 50, and areas such as Pettah, Thripunithura, and Mukkottil Temple Road have complained that they are facing acute shortage of drinking water supply. Association president Roy Thekkan said on Thursday that the residents had been forced to write to the Kerala Water Authority highlighting the shortage of drinking water in the areas for around four months now. Some families are forced to spend huge sum to get water supplied by tankers yet struggle with low pressure on pumping days. Mr. Thekkan said new six-inch pipes from Pettah Junction and a direct connection were needed to ensure sufficient drinking water supply to the Mukkottil residential area.
