HC asks Kerala govt. to give a draft composition of working group on anti-ragging rules
A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday asked the State government to submit in a week a draft on the composition of a multi-disciplinary working group on formulating rules for effective implementation of the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act and also to decide whether any amendment to the Act is necessary. The Bench comprising Chief Justice Nitin Jamadar and Justice C. Jayachandran while granting the government one week time to place before the court the draft on the working group’s composition, observed that it had expected the government to submit the draft on Wednesday. The court also asked the government to include representatives of the University Grants Commission and the Kerala Legal Services Authority in the working group. Suggestions sought The court also asked Sheeba M.R., mother of Sidharthan J.S., a student of Government Veterinary College, Pookode, Wayanad, who died allegedly due to ragging, and others, to place their suggestions before the working group after its constitution.
