Mallikarjun Kharge's political journey Kharge was elected MLA nine times in a row, seeing a steady rise in his career graph from humble beginnings as a union leader in his home district of Gulbarga. Kharge was the leader of the Congress party in Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019 but could not become the leader of the opposition, as the grand old party could not get the post as its numbers were less than the mandated 10 percent of the total number of seats in the Lower House.
