Majority of High-Income Households Living Paycheck to Paycheck
CNNA significant portion of US households earning more than $150,000 a year are living paycheck to paycheck. This means that more than half of households earning between $150,000 and $250,000 a year are living paycheck to paycheck, and the share of households living paycheck to paycheck and earning between $50,000 and $75,000 is only a few percentage points higher than households earning more than $150,000. However, higher-income households may have bought larger, more expensive homes and consequently have bigger mortgages, property taxes, and utility bills, which could contribute to their higher proportion of income dedicated to necessities.
