Xiaomi Readies Own Mobile Chip, To Rival MediaTek and Qualcomm

Deccan Chronicle

Xiaomi is reportedly preparing self-designed mobile processor for its upcoming smartphones in order to minimize its reliance on Qualcomm and MediaTek. According to a report by Bloomberg, the mass production of the self-designed mobile processor is expected to begin in 2025. In addition to the investment in semiconductors, Beijing-based Xiaomi has already heavily invested on electric vehicles this year but the smartphone chipset area is not an easy task as many tech giants have failed to compete which includes Intel, Nvidia and Oppo. In October, Xiaomi Chief Executive Officer Lei Jun said that the company will invest 30 billion yuan in research and development in 2025.
