It was a dazzling opening session in the pool on day 2 of the Tokyo Olympics for the Aussies. The Aussie women's 4x100 metres freestyle relay team secured Australia's first gold medal of the games in the opening pool session on day two. Brendon Smith won Australia's first medal at the Tokyo Games, taking bronze in the men's 400m individual medley. World number one Ash Barty crashed out of the Olympics women's singles after being defeated in straight sets by Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo, 6-4, 6-3. Barty was considered one of Australia's top medal hopes, but the defeat came in the first round of singles competition.
