
Fact Check: This video of pro-Hindu sloganeering in residential society is NOT from Maharashtra
India TodayAhead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections slated for November 20, a video showing a group of men at a residential society holding saffron flags and sloganeering in support of Lord Ram and Hindus was widely shared on social media. India Today Fact Check found that the video had nothing to do with the Maharashtra elections. Using relevant keywords, we found a Facebook post that claimed this clip showed a “Prabhat Pheri” or a morning religious procession carried out by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers in multiple residential societies in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. He confirmed that the video was from his society and was shot when some RSS workers arrived there before the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh that spanned from February 10 to March 7, 2022, in seven phases.
