The first high-speed mobile network, 3G, was launched in Australia in 2003. Here's more from ABC rural reporter David Claughton: "The people who will be most affected are those who live in remote areas, outside of the existing 3G coverage area, who have been getting what is described by Telstra and Optus as "fortuitous" coverage."
