Wet weekend weather for Queensland and NSW as cyclone brews in north-west, BOM says
ABCIt has been a drenching few days for south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales and there is more rain to come, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. Key points: More than three quarters of a metre of rain has fallen in Pomona in the last week, including more than 500mm in 15 hours The rain is expected to continue in south-east Queensland over the weekend while spreading to the NSW coast A low in the Timor Sea is expected to spin up to cyclone strength tomorrow morning before meandering south The largest total in the 24 hours to 9am Friday was 463 millimetres just south-west of Bundaberg, at the Old Range gauge. BOM meteorologist Jackson Browne said everywhere south-east of Oakey and Gympie had received in excess of 100mm in the seven days to 9am on Friday. Mr Browne said the upper-level system driving the rainfall onto the coast had "not been terribly motivated to move around today". "The current forecast track does have it just meandering around the southern Timor Sea, and then moving down towards the very remote northern Kimberley Coast come late Saturday into Sunday."
