Why did the Reserve Bank leave interest rates on hold at 4.1 per cent? What does it mean for inflation? When will the RBA start cutting rates?

For the fourth-straight month, the Reserve Bank of Australia left the cash rate on hold at 4.1 per cent at its meeting on Tuesday. In other words, the RBA says the impact of past rate hikes are doing the business at keeping inflation lower and sending it back down to its target range of 2-3 per cent. The RBA has long had a long-term target to keep inflation within a target range of 2-3 per cent, but the rate of inflation currently is much higher than that. that the Reserve Bank will hold rates at 4.1 per cent right up until November 2024 when we'll start to see a modest easing cycle," ANZ's Adelaide Timbrell said. In other words — get used to rates staying around the 4.1 per cent mark for the next little while, and be prepared for more decisions coming out of the RBA's Sydney headquarters that see no change to interest rates.
