Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, who died in a San Francisco-based hospital after suffering from a chronic lung disease, was laid to rest on Thursday. Hussain, the son of the legendary tabla player Alla Rakha, revolutionised the instrument, taking it beyond the confines of classical music to other forms, including jazz and Western classical.
