Lawyers’ union demands posting of permanent judge for Pudukkottai Special Court

The Hindu

The All India Lawyers’ Union has called for immediate appointment of a permanent judge to the special court for the exclusive trial of cases registered under SC/ST Act, citing a backlog of cases because of the absence of a permanent judge for a long time. This demand was made during AILU’s Tamil Nadu State Committee meeting held on Saturday. Other demands include establishing exclusive restrooms for women lawyers in all courts, creches for children of women lawyers and court staff, and forming Visakha Committees in every district to deal with complaints of sexual harassment. AILU emphasised the need for low-interest loans to help young women lawyers establish offices and purchase law books.
