Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian says no need to panic over HMPV cases
India TodayTamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has sought to calm public concerns over the recent detection of Human Metapneumovirus in the state, stressing that there is no need for panic. Subramanian also urged the public to follow basic precautionary measures, such as wearing masks in crowded areas and maintaining social distance, especially for those showing symptoms of respiratory illness. Health Secretary Supriya Sahu confirmed that the Tamil Nadu government is in constant contact with the World Health Organization and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which have also reiterated that HMPV is an old virus in circulation. The Health Minister also reminded the public that such respiratory viruses have been a part of human history for centuries, and that maintaining basic hygiene practices like handwashing is always advisable.
