Well entrenched in Marakkanam Police sources confirmed that illicit liquor trade was well entrenched in the Marakkanam region and the authorities were well aware of those involved in toddy-tapping and smuggling of illicit liquor. Through Raja and Ezhumalai, liquor containing the methanol reached Marakkanam and Chithamur through ‘Vilambur’ Vijay, 45, a BJP functionary, suspected to be the go-between, the police said.
