Vizag GST slueths arrest Tamil Nadu man over ₹35 cr tax fraud
The HinduDirectorate General of GST Intelligence officials of the Visakhapatnam Zonal Unit have arrested a man based out of Tamil Nadu for allegedly generating fake invoices worth ₹230 crore and committing a Goods & Service Tax input tax credit fraud, causing a loss of ₹35 crore to the government exchequer. The officials say the accused is the mastermind behind a complex GST fraud involving the creation of 80 shell companies using the stolen identities of unsuspecting individuals. Modus operandi The officials said the accused generated fraudulent input tax credit claims and passed them on to the shell companies by generating fake invoices without an underlying supply of goods and services, thereby illegally reducing GST liabilities. Following search operations in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the authorities acted swiftly, and arrested the accused.
