Uttam Kumar Reddy asserts govt’s resolve to initiate action against guilty in Kaleshwaram fiasco
Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has asserted that the Telangana Government is firm on initiating action against those found guilty of lapses in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The Irrigation Minister was responding to the concern expressed by BJP member Palvai Harish that the department was incurring substantial expenditure for payment of interest and principal on the huge loans obtained for irrigation projects. Describing the Kaleshwaram project as a “colossal waste of public money”, Dr. Harish said that the government should take action against the then Chief Minister and Irrigation Minister as they should own the responsibility for the project failure. Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy admitted that significant portion of the budget was being spent on repayment of principal and interest for loans taken by the previous government.
