Known for his work in the films of directors such as Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha, Buddhadev Dasgupta, Tarun Majumdar, Basu Chatterjee and Goutam Ghose, Mitra was also universally hailed as one of the giants of Bengali theatre.
