Impetus to creation of theatre commands as Lok Sabha passes inter services bill
India TodayThe lower house of Parliament, Lok Sabha, on Friday, passed a Bill to empower commanders of inter-service organisations to exercise disciplinary or administrative control over personnel of the army, air force, and navy serving under their command. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh moved the Inter-Services Organisations Bill, 2023 for passage in Lok Sabha amid opposition protests over their demands related to the Manipur debate. Speaking about the Bill, Rajnath Singh said it promotes jointness and provides better disciplinary and administrative powers for commanders of inter-service organisations. The enactment of the Bill will have various tangible benefits, such as the maintenance of effective discipline in inter-service establishments by the Heads of ISOs, no requirement to revert personnel under disciplinary proceedings to their parent Service units, expeditious disposal of cases of misdemeanour or indiscipline and saving of public money & time by avoiding multiple proceedings," the Ministry of Defence said.
