Madurai Metro Rail project: groundwork for land acquisition, shifting of utility lines to begin soon

Anticipating approval for the detailed project report for Madurai Metro Rail Project, Chennai Metro Rail Limited has proposed to begin the groundwork for land acquisition and shifting of utility lines along the proposed alignment in Madurai. However, the work like land acquisition and shifting of utility lines would require around 10% of the total project cost. Both Madurai and Coimbatore metro rail works would be taken up as a single project to avoid time delay in acquiring train sets and signalling systems by using common design for the projects in both the cities, he added. He also allayed fears of the work causing damage to any structure in the city as metro rail would only engage tunnel boring machines and not use any blasting for constructing the underground structures.
