Kanniyakumari farmers demand action on encroachments of waterbodies

The farmers grievance meeting held at the Collectorate in Nagercoil highlighted the issues such as delays in disbursing funds under the PM KISAN scheme, encroachments on waterways and poor maintenance of paddy procurement centres in Kanniyakumari district. The farmers also sought better maintenance of paddy procurement centres in Thovalai and Parakkai regions. Farmers also alleged irregularities at paddy procurement process and cumbersome procedures involved in obtaining alluvial soil from waterbodies and requested a simplified approach. She assured that the farmers could directly approach the Tahsildars to take soil from the ponds without requiring any intermediaries.
