The soldier who was wounded in the Sopore gunfight succumbed to his injuries in a hospital. A spokesperson of the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps identified the deceased soldier as Sowar Pangala Kartheek. Officials said security forces had come under fire from hiding militants on Monday morning as the operation, halted for the night, resumed in the Gujjarpatti area of Sopore in Baramulla district. The Army said security forces had observed suspicious activity, and on being challenged, the terrorists had opened indiscriminate fire.
