What the US exit from World Health Organization means for global health

When US President Donald Trump was handed the folder with an executive order to withdraw from the World Health Organization, he exclaimed, "Ooh, that's a big one!" "World Health ripped us off, everybody rips off the United States," Mr Trump said at the signing of the executive order. Lawrence Gostin, a professor of global health at Georgetown University in Washington and director of the WHO Collaborating Center on National and Global Health Law, said the US withdrawal would "make the world far less healthy and safe". When asked about Mr Trump's executive order, China's foreign ministry told a regular press briefing that the WHO's role in global health governance should only be strengthened, not weakened.
