UPI transactions IDs could stop working from February 1 for this reason

The National Payments Corporation of India has announced that special characters will no longer be allowed in UPI transaction IDs starting from February 1, 2025. According to a circular issued by NPCI on January 9, the new rule will require all UPI transaction IDs to be strictly alphanumeric. It’s also recommended to stick to UPI applications downloaded from trusted sources such as Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store, as third-party apps may not always adhere to NPCI guidelines. The decision to ban special characters in UPI transaction IDs is part of a broader effort to standardise and secure the UPI ecosystem.
