I am being made scapegoat: IPS officer Rashmi Shukla to Bombay HC in phone tapping case
India TodayIPS officer Rashmi Shukla, named in the phone tapping case of the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department, told the Bombay High Court on Friday that she was being made a scapegoat by the Maharashtra government while the state's chief secretary, Sitaram Kunte, is getting protection. Rashmi Shukla's lawyer, advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, said it was Sitaram Kunte who had sanctioned phone tapping and now he "cannot absolve himself" by putting blame on the senior 'upright officer'. The alleged tapping of phones took place when Rashmi Shukla headed the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department and Sitaram Kunte was Maharashtra's additional chief secretary. When Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani argued that the Maharashtra government lodged the FIR against Rashmi Shukla only to make her a scapegoat in the illegal phone tapping case, Darius Khambata termed these allegations as "frivolous".
