Kerala HC for appointment of candidates with understanding of child welfare in child welfare committees

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court has held that members of Child Welfare Committees should have a deep understanding of matters of child welfare. The Bench comprising Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice S. Manu made the observation recently while allowing an appeal filed by C. Krishnankutty Nair against a single judge’s order dismissing a plea challenging the appointment of Alan M. Alexander as member of the Kollam CWC. For effective functioning The Bench observed that a person actively involved in the health, education, and welfare activities of children through his experience could make a difference to the functioning of the committee. Crucial component The court while declaring Mr. Nair eligible for appointment as a member further observed that these committees were a crucial component for implementing the Juvenile Justice Act.
