BCCI delegates secretary’s powers to joint secretary Devajit Saikia
The HinduThe Board of Control for Cricket in India president Roger Binny formally delegated the secretary’s powers to the incumbent joint secretary Devajit Saikia, following Jay Shah’s move to the International Cricket Council. According to Rule 7, “the president shall, in the event of a vacancy or indisposition of an office bearer, delegate the functions of another office-bearer until the vacancy is duly filled up, or the indisposition ceases…” In an email to Saikia on Saturday, Binny wrote: “I hereby delegate the functions of the secretary to you till the post is duly filled up as per the processes laid down as per the BCCI rules and regulations…” As per the BCCI’s rule, the election for the secretary’s post will have to be held on or before January 14, 2025. However, with Saikia taking charge, there’s a possibility that he could continue until the Board’s next AGM in September, 2025 where a new secretary could be appointed. Saikia was recently appointed as the board director of the ICC and he will represent the BCCI in the global body.
