Man found dead after being swept off road during severe storms in Queensland

ABC

A man has been found dead after his car was swept away by floodwaters in Queensland's South Burnett region. Key points: A man and a woman were travelling near MP Creek in Wondai when their car was swept off the road Storms lashed large parts of southern Queensland, causing flash flooding Hail of around 9 centimetres was reported at Beaudesert, south-west of Brisbane Severe storms swept through large parts of southern Queensland last night, causing flash flooding in some already swollen rivers and creeks. Flood debris is lying in suburban streets waiting to be taken to landfill — the Australian Defence Force will join Brisbane City Council workers to remove the rubbish in the days ahead. Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the floods had created more than a year's worth of landfill -- and it could take days to remove it. The Mud Army 2.0 was stood down Sunday due to concerns about the oncoming storms and the safety of volunteers around heavy machinery brought in to clear flood debris.
