Victorian bushfire evacuees buoyed by community kindness amid Grampians bushfires

ABC

After two years of travelling the country in a caravan, Narissa McConnell and her family of five decided to settle in picturesque Halls Gap. "After the February fires, a lot of people have been prepared for this," Northern Grampians Councillor Jack Blake said. Halls Gap Zoo owner Mark Treweek has been blown away by offers to house some of the animals who had to evacuate as the fire threatened his sanctuary. "The generosity of public is what I don't like talking about — it's about the only thing that gets to me at the moment," he said emotionally. "Oh, it's unbelievable," said Halls Gap Fire Brigade Captain Justin Cozens.
