Second House Republican signals defiance of Trump's Mike Johnson endorsement
Raw StoryRep, Victoria Spartz on Monday signaled that she's not on board with President-elect Donald Trump's decision to back Mike Johnson's bid for the speakership. Shortly after renegade Rep. Thomas Massie put out a statement defying Trump's call to make Johnson speaker, Spartz sent out a message on X that also poured cold water on the idea. However, we still need to get assurances that Speaker Johnson won’t sell us out to the swamp," she wrote while also posting a link to an article that highlighted Trump's past endorsements of former House Speaker Paul Ryan and the late Sen. John McCain to highlight the risk of pushing forward with Johnson. "President Trump will be able to save America only if we have a speaker with courage, vision and a plan — also public commitment to the American people how he will help deliver President Trump’s agenda to drain the swamp," she wrote in a followup post.
