In the session ‘The Dominance of Gujratis: From Mahatma Gandhi to Narendra Modi,’ Salil Tripathi in a conversation with Ranveer Shah spoke about his new book, Gujratis: The Portrait of a Community, edited by David Davidar. Mr. Tripathi said he grew up in Mumbai and is an “outsider looking in and an insider looking out.” He spoke of the contributions of Gujaratis in building Mumbai, about the diaspora, the contributions of Gujaratis to the Army, of well-known Gujaratis such as Mahatma Gandhi and Narendra Modi, the situation of Dalits, and the contributions of the Sarabhais.
