Karnataka government urged not to release water to Tamil Nadu

The State government has been urged not to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu as water level at all major reservoirs in the Cauvery basin in Karnataka are precariously plummeting owing to the poor rains. A meeting was convened here on Thursday to discuss the recent Supreme Court orders pertaining to the Cauvery water sharing dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The meeting, led by Mandya Zilla Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti president G. Made Gowda, hoped that the State government will stick to its resolution — which was passed in a special State legislature session on September 23 — of using the available storage at the Krishnaraja Sagar and other reservoirs in the Cauvery basin only for drinking purpose. The storage at all reservoirs in the Cauvery basin has already flowed to the neighbouring State owing to the directions of the Cauvery Supervisory Committee and the apex court.
