India Lost 50 Doctors to Covid in a Day, IMA Says Over 200 Lost Lives So Far in Second Wave
News 18As many as 244 doctors have lost their lives in the second wave of coronavirus in India, data from the Indian Medical Association registry showed. “While last year, we lost nearly 730 doctors across India, this year in a short period of time we have lost 244 doctors. The figures emerged on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the strategy of starting the vaccination programme with frontline warriors paid rich dividends in the second wave and ensured the safety of most of the doctors as 90 percent of health professionals have already taken its first dose. Modi interacted with a group of doctors via video-conferencing wherein he said be it testing, supply of medicines or setting up new infrastructure in “record time”, all these are being done at a fast pace.
