
Ludhiana ACP booked for taking bribe
Hindustan TimesThe vigilance bureau has registered a corruption case against assistant commissioner of police Gurcharan Singh for accepting Rs 25 lakh as bribe to favour a motor vehicle inspector, Rakesh Kumar Gupta, who is absconding and faces charges of corruption and possessing opium. According to the FIR registered against Gurcharan, he had accepted Rs 25 lakh as bribe from Gupta when he was the DSP to settle a corruption case in the MVI's favour. The economic offences wing of the VB in Ludhiana had raided Gupta's house in Ambedkar Nagar, Model Town Extension, here on July 18 and seized Rs 35 lakh in cash, 1 kg of opium, Indira Vikas Patra worth Rs 5 lakh and property documents worth several crores. Subsequently, Gupta came in contact with Gurcharan and allegedly gave him Rs 25 lakh as bribe to settle the case in his favour.
