Top court notice to Centre on plea seeking pan-India guidelines for women's safety
India TodayThe Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to Centre and states on a plea seeking pan-India guidelines for the safety of women, including banning free online pornographic material and the castration of individuals convicted for sex offences. Praising the petitioner for highlighting relevant things in its plea, the bench said, "One of the prayers you have asked for is to issue guidelines for social behaviour in public transport. Senior advocate Maha Laxmi Pavani, who is the President of the Supreme Court Women Lawyers Association, urged that the petitioner was seeking pan-India safety guidelines, reforms and measures for the most vulnerable women who do not get justice. The plea also highlighted the rights of the third gender, stating, "The petitioner beseeches this court to invoke the doctrine of parens patriae to safeguard the fundamental rights of women, children and the third gender in our nation, which encompass their right to safety, a secure workplace, adequate sanitation, personal dignity, bodily integrity and a safe environment."
